Community Updates

Project continues with Phase 1 on Monday, March 21, 2022

Construction of the project will continue with Phase 1 on Monday, March 21, 2022. Phase 1 work will generally consist of new sidewalk, curb and gutter, handicap curb access ramps, traffic signal improvements, and concrete pavement on the south side of Pacific Coast Highway. Long-term, 24/7 lane closures will be implemented through the end of Phase 3 of the project, which will tentatively conclude in December of 2022. Traffic lanes will be reduced to 1 left turn lane and two through lanes in each direction.

Traffic Impacts

Traffic Impacts beginning Friday, May 13 through Friday, May 20

Friday, May 13 at 8:00 PM through Sunday, May 15 at 11:00 PM

  • Through lanes will be temporarily reduced from 3 lanes to 1 lane in all directions.
  • Left-turns will be prohibited in all directions.
  • Right-turns will be prohibited EB PCH to SB Hawthorne Blvd and NB Hawthorne Blvd to EB PCH.

Sunday, May 15 at 11:00 PM through Friday, May 20 at 8:00 PM

  • Through lanes will be reduced from 3 lanes to 2 lanes in all directions.
  • Left-turns from NB and SB Hawthorne Blvd to will be reduced from 2 lanes to 1 lane.

Message boards are deployed in all directions to inform drivers of the significant traffic impacts. Alternate routes are recommended.

The PCH & Hawthorne Project will increase the capacity of the intersection of Hawthorne Blvd and Pacific Coast Highway by providing three through lanes, dual left turn lanes and dedicated right-turn lanes in all four directions.
